SPEAKING IN TONGUES AND OTHER MIRACLES

Speaking in tongues is a prominent image in today’s religious landscape. The presence of “tongue speaking” in the New Testament has convinced many that they should speak in tongues today. Many will go so far as to say that unless one “speaks in tongues,” he or she isn’t saved. There are three positions on the … Continue reading SPEAKING IN TONGUES AND OTHER MIRACLES

The Barbados Song

While in college at Freed-Hardeman, Jessie and I went on a mission trip to the tiny island nation of Barbados. The island nation was made up of very nice tourist areas and not so nice areas where most of the people lived. We knocked doors all day and we met for worship at night. I … Continue reading The Barbados Song

“A Body Thou Hast Prepared for Me”

“It was especially the work of God the Father to prepare Christ a body, as appears by Heb. 10:5.”[1] Since it was impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sin, Hebrews 10:1-10 points out the need for the Divine Son of God to be sacrificed for sin. This is why Jesus … Continue reading “A Body Thou Hast Prepared for Me”

The Glory of Preaching

God's description of his preacher: "in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known, … Continue reading The Glory of Preaching

Freedom from Sin Through Grace, Propitiation, and Faith

Donnie L. DeBord's avatarDonnie's Dogmatics

The words of Romans 3:19-20 are all too clear. “Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. 20For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.”

All are Lost

The book of Romans begins by demonstrating that all are lost. All have fallen under the penalty of sin. Especially those who have the Law—the Old Testament Law given through Moses. We are told that the whole world will be held “accountable to God” (3:19).

The word translated “accountable” or “guilty” (KJV) only occurs here in the Greek New Testament. It is defined as: “The state of an accused person who cannot reply at the trial initiated against him because…

Introduction Matters of salvation are of prime importance. When someone teaches that something must be done in order for one to be saved, then that doctrine is either a saving truth or a condemning heresy. There is no middle ground. This study will refute the heretical claim that in order for one to be saved … Continue reading THE JESUS ONLY DOCTRINE: MUST THE BAPTIZER SAY THE WORDS “IN THE NAME OF JESUS” FOR BAPTISM TO BE VALID?

Can I Help You?

Can I help you? Rather, can you be helped? Plutarch wrote: Some young men indeed there are of a contrary disposition, who having undergone one rebuke fly off without ever looking back, turn renegades, and quite desert philosophy. These being naturally very modest have a good disposition toward an healthful habit of mind, but vitiate … Continue reading Can I Help You?

Meetings with the Gospel

The book of Acts is a great place to see the power of Gospel Meetings. In the first chapter, the church is made ready to preach and serve. In the second chapter, there is a Gospel Meeting with 3000 converts. Peter preached the Gospel of Christ. Many people believed the Gospel (Acts 2:37). Since they … Continue reading Meetings with the Gospel

A Theology of Worship

“But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship him.  God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24) “If Christianity is the transformation of … Continue reading A Theology of Worship
